Kurpian cottage

Nowogrod, a small town situated on Nadnarwianska slope with nearly 2 thousands inhabitants. It is know for Skansen Kurpiowski, which is the largest open-air museum, dedicated to Kurpie culture and a popular folk tourist attraction. Founded in 1927 as the second in Poland (the oldest is in the Kashubian Wdzydze) by a local activist and member Adam Chêtnik.
Inhabitants of Kurpie - alongside mountain people - until recently have been regarded as the best builders in Poland. Today, unfortunately, true Kurpian cottage can be seen solely in museums. Nevertheless, in some villages a lot of wooden houses leaning toward ground, black with age have survived. Instead of straw or shingle they usually have tin roofs and they remained in a deplorable state. Unfortunately, characteristic decorated edges of a roof have disappeared.
The oldest houses in the museum are 200 years old. They were constructed of logs rectangular (never rounded). Roofs were covered with straw or shingle. Small windows decorate with carved windowsills.
You can also see a boat taken from river Pisa, which age is estimated to be 700-1000 years.
