Folk dances

2010-02-07

The Voivodeship House of Culture in Kielce received 600 thousand zloty from the EEA and Norway Grants for the execution of the “Folk dances in the past and in the present” project. The money will be allocated for a series of Polish-Norwegian undertakings aimed at saving from oblivion songs and folk dances originating from these countries, as well as the promotion of Polish and Norwegian folk culture.

The project will be launched at a conference taking place in Kielce in late April and early May in the presence of scientists from academic centers from Poland and Norway. Specialists from Warsaw, Lublin, Cracow and Torun among others will present the current situation of music and folk dances. Additionally, the best Polish song ensembles will give a performance.

In June some young Norwegian artists are going to arrive to Kielce. Together with Polish artists they will participate in workshops, during which they will learn traditional dance and singing of both nations.

Next, at the end of July and the beginning of August Poland will be visited by Norwegian scientists. Together with Polish guides they will embark upon a tour through the most important centers of folklore in the country. They will visit Gdañsk, Kaszuby, Kurpie, Wielkopolska, £owicz and Podegrodzie near Nowy S±cz among other cities and towns.

Conversely, Polish scientists will go to Norway in order to learn about the experience of scientists from the University of Trondheim. Moreover, song and dance ensembles Bielinianki and Wi¶liczanie will perform at Hilmar Festivalen, a important folklore event in Norway. The project will culminate in a bilingual publication containing reports of Polish and Norwegian scientists.
